Was it a kiss? You decide.

Could you help me out with something? Read this story and then take the poll on the sidebar.

So there are these two college students. A guy and a girl. Let's call them Adam and . . . Eve.

Adam is a dashing recently returned missionary, dating around and going through the process of trying to find the perfect girl to marry, eliminating girls one by one as they fail to meet his criteria.

Eve is a college freshman from a troubled family. An amazing, smart, beautiful girl who craves affection and a place to belong.

Adam and Eve meet and start dating/hanging out. Before long, it's time for Christmas break. Eve doesn't have anywhere to go, no home to return to, no family to stay with. So Adam invites her to spend the holidays with his family and she accepts. And that is when and where it happens. What happens? Well, that is for you to decide.

Adam and Eve are sitting close together, cuddling and being affectionate. Adam has no intention of kissing Eve, but he decides to get his lips as close as humanly possible to her lips, without actually touching them. He moves very slowly and carefully toward her, with the intention of stopping before their lips actually meet.

Now, Adam is usually a very precise fellow, but this time he slightly midjudges the distance, and his lips lightly brush Eve's. Truthfully, maybe only one of his lips. And maybe only one of hers. But there is contact before he moves away.

Upon returning to campus after the holidays, Eve reports to a mutual friend that she and Adam kissed. When this friend talks to Adam about it, he says it is not true.

So, did they kiss? Adam says no, because the intention to kiss wasn't there, that any contact was unintentional and inadvertent, and if he had really kissed her, it would have been obvious. Eve says yes, because he was the one who moved toward her, and their lips did meet. A very soft, very gentle kiss maybe, but definitely a kiss.

I have volunteered to put this question to an impartial jury. Did they kiss?

Comments are also welcome. Thanks for your help! :)

If they are supposedly dating and cuddling and that "accidental" lip contact was the only resemblance of a kiss they have ever shared, then the guy is gay. Eve needs to dump the guy and move on to s relationship that actually has potential.

He sounds like a big tease! I'm with Nancy DUMP him and find someone who will kiss you and be proud of it!

Agreed! He's just playin' with her. If he's got her so confused that she doesn't even know if they've kissed, then she needs to move on. But, in my opinion, it wasn't a kiss.

"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone."

Even so lip contact, if it hath not intent, is nothing more, being devoid of emotion.

I read this account in horror as I remembered a fateful fall day in the mall. I careened carelessly around a corner, and a young lady on the other side had but a scant second to react. Suddenly our noses smushed together, our foreheads bumped, and for a fleeting moment our lips locked. And now I painfully ponder that she not only potentially perceived that as a kiss, but all this time has considered me a sloppy smoocher.

Not a kiss, but Adam is certainly either a wuss or an immature wuss.

This was no accidental face-smashing encounter in a mall. Adam was trying purposely to get as close as possible without kissing Eve. No one does that without wanting to kiss. The lip touching cannot be interpreted as an accident since the desire was obviously present. It's like... if a person tries to get as close a possible to the edge of a cliff without falling off, and then he falls, is he really dead?

Brushing is not kissing!

Jenny makes and excellent point! She obviously knows what she's talking about. I take back everything I said!

I agree with Dennis' first comments. If you don't want to get burned, don't play with matches. If you don't want to kiss, don't cuddle on the couch with your face turned toward a vulnerable girl.

This was no rushed collision, it was intentionally playing with fire, and Adam got to close. Definitely a kiss. And there should be no, "The woman made me do it," "it was unintentional" cop outs either.

Eve should definitely dump him for saying otherwise, or for leading her on without real intentions - take your pick. Either way she should lose this guy!

Stop getting your friends to stack the votes, Adam! Big fat cheater!

If he is ashamed to admit that he maybe kissed her or even had the thoughts to kiss her, or just snuggle on the couch but doesn't want people to know, she should dump him and run not walk away.

Sounds like we're dealing with two unstable people and not just the one. Why can't he just be friends (since his denial shows that that is what he really wants), without the benefits of cuddling, etc? She shouldn't have run and told--yes, but you've already established that she's vulnerable. He cannot take the high road because he's only taking advantage of her emotions, which depicts him as ustable as well. If he's "just not into [her]" then let his actions show that 100%.

I know I didn't answer a yes/no to the question, but it's not exactly that type of question. Whether they kissed is not the issue...did he lead her or not (as more than a friend) is a more appropriate topic with this? There is more to an affectionate relationship than a KISS/PECK/BRUSH with or without intent/emotion. He gave her every reason to think what she thought. So, he just needs to be real.

I'm confused...is Adam a real person? Someone you know? Either way, I agree with Nancy, Heather, and Rachel....dump the dude!
