Last year my kids said, "It would be a REAL Christmas miracle if you could read this book without crying!" Well, it happened. I got through the whole story without shedding a tear. Unbelievable. My heart must have turned to stone in the last year. No, for real, as I explained to the boys, it was because I read it over Thanksgiving Break and got all the crying out of my system. After Caleb had fun acting out how I look and sound every time I start bawling over a book, he had this helpful suggestion: "Mom, about a week before Easter, how about if you read 'He Took My Lickin' for Me' three times before you read it to us?" Ha ha.
